I’m so happy to share this beautiful, summery wedding. Lovely people, lovely venue and wild weather – that about sums it up! It only takes about two minutes around Kathryn and Justin to realize how great they are together. They make you feel comfortable in an instant. I first met them at their engagement shoot where I quickly learned that poor Justin was nursing a touch of a headache after his surprise birthday party from the night before. Rather than cancel and disappoint Kathryn, he toughed it out and we ended up having a great time. I was impressed! To add to my delight, I was excited to make the trip to Pomfret again to seem my good friends at Tyrone Farm. It is, without a doubt, one of my favorite places to photograph. Not only are Ian and his staff some of the nicest people I’ve met in this industry, but the place is just downright gorgeous. And because of the way it’s situated at the top of a big hill, it’s bathed in gorgeous light.
As usual, I’d love to share few favorites from the day:
The day started out with beautiful blue skies.
However, things quickly turned dark. Soon there was marble sized hail, freak winds and flash flooding. Kathryn waited for the weather to calm and never once questioned or showed the slightest sign of worry.
In fact, she was down right poised and, I dare say, giddy!
Meanwhile, outside (Larry Sherrell joined me for the day and toughed it out to get these crazy rain shots)
Kathryn’s father seemed a little more concerned:
But not Justin!
And just like that, the clouds parted and the sun came out.
A tag team effort from the caterers and Ian’s crew had the chairs dried in minutes, and a beautiful rainbow settled in over the ceremony location.
Kathryn and her father preparing to walk down the isle.
The clouds make for DRAMA!
A stunning spot to be married.
I loved the colors and the feathers:
The sun back in full effect.
Justin and Kathryn treated their guests to Island Creek Oysters.
I loved this touch – Kathryn printed ‘polaroid’ style photos and many of the photos involved the guests. She even printed one for me using one of the engagement shots!
After dinner in the tent, the party moved into the barn for the first dance.
A fire pit created a cozy atmosphere outside the barn.
The fiery sendoff.
The couple retreated to a bench to let their sparklers burn out and to catch a moment of rest. This cute kiss was a the perfect ending to a perfect day.
Let me extend a huge thank you to Kathryn and Justin for allowing me to share this wonderful wedding. Thanks also to Larry Sherrell for his help, as well as from Ian, Anne-Lise, Bobby and the whole crew at Tyrone!
